TO QUOTE OR NOT TO QUOTE?

This has become somewhat of a inside joke among my colleagues, "here comes Dr.P quoting himself again". Joking aside, as I have grown over the years I realized that I love quotes. I like the idea of capturing important ideas in a slogan small enough to fit on a bumper sticker, yet deep enough to communicate important ideas that can change people's minds an affect the world around us. After many years of reading thoughts that influential people have left behind for us, my focus moved towards thinking of quotes that I would like to be remembered by. I encourage all people not just educators to formulate "quotable" content and share it with others. Below I included some quotes that I have used in various situations hoping that they will assist me in creating a legacy others can build upon. Like them or not, here they are:
  1. Knowing people is nice. Understanding people is important. Getting to know people better is extremely critical. But, if you don't know yourself, none of the above is relevant.
  2. The shape, the design, and the unique features of your leadership tool box are as important as its content.  There is a symbiotic relationship between your big ideas (Mission, Vision, Purpose, Values ect.) and all small tangible, hands-on ‘items’.  The learning leader is the curator of the balance between the two.
  3. What you can learn, re-learn, and  unlearn is limitless and it's usually up to you. When you truly believe it, and help others to adopt this mindset… you have accepted the life of the Learning Leader.
  4. All perspectives held by you and others provide a vehicle for understanding how to best meet the needs of those we serve, ourselves included.
  5. Traditional teaching done using innovative technology undermines innovation even more than not using technology at all, because it reinforces the idea that innovation has nothing to contribute to improving how people learn and teach.
  6. If you live a leaderly life, anything you experience or know about can inform everything you do to learn, lead, inspire and support exponential growth in others and yourself. Nothing is too ordinary, too simple, too deep, not deep enough, too theoretical, too anything, to be used for that purpose. A learning leader, living a leaderly life can always find MEANINGFUL connections among ideas that others might consider unrelated.
